Useful things to know before you embark on this amazing journey
Guests do not need to be exceptionally fit, but having a reasonable level of fitness will enhance your overall enjoyment of the experience. The altitude at which the hike takes place will influence its difficulty level. Therefore, it’s important to prepare by walking and hiking regularly beforehand.
When you eventually encounter these gentle giants, you’ll have the chance to spend up to one hour in their presence before returning to the lodge. Rangers typically advise maintaining a distance of around 7 metres, although the gorillas may not always adhere to this guideline.
As of 1st January 2018, nationals of all countries will receive a visa on arrival at Kigali International Airport and at all land borders. Visas can also be applied for before departure by submitting an application online at https://irembo.gov.rw/home/citizen/all_services?lang=en. Payment can be made online or upon arrival. Alternatively, visa applications can be submitted at Rwanda Diplomatic Missions in the applicant’s country of residence.
