This trip is ideal for someone who has been to Africa before and is seeking a unique and special experience. Start in Cape Town and then journey to a truly magical destination, so far off the beaten track that it is generally only accessible by scheduled charter flight from Cape Town or Johannesburg. This reserve, located in the Northern Cape, is part of the Southern Kalahari. It is serviced by a private, hard-top airfield, and upon arrival, you will be welcomed at the foot of the aircraft stairs by your personal field guide and tracker. They will take care of you throughout your stay, arranging every aspect of your private safari.
Make an EnquiryPristine ocean views over Camps Bay beach and Lion’s Head, beachside cuisine at a variety of our renowned restaurants, and a vast mountain range and National Park to explore – make The Marly a destination boutique hotel and spa for the modern-day traveller.
Combining luxury and playfulness with sophisticated design, five-star service, spa treatments, rooftop pool and bar with unrivalled vistas of the Twelve Apostles, and both ocean and mountain-facing rooms, there’s simply no reason to leave.
The Motse Safari Camp is situated in Tswalu, South Africa’s largest privately owned game reserve, on the southernmost edge of the Kalahari. Tswalu has an exceptionally low guest-to-space ratio, meaning guests will be among no more than 28 people with exclusive access to one of Southern Africa’s last great wildernesses. Privacy, exclusivity, and flexibility are central to the Tswalu guest experience, from dining and relaxation to the diverse safari activities. Guests can enjoy interpretative walks, horse riding, or spend time in the field with one of the research teams from the Dedeben Research Centre, part of the Tswalu Foundation. The Motse is a luxury camp with nine private guest legae (Tswana for ‘home’); three of these are specifically designed for families, featuring two bedrooms. The Motse is perfectly positioned to capture the wide, open spaces typical of the southern Kalahari’s dramatic beauty. By choosing to stay in one of these small, luxury camps, guests are contributing to the conservation of the southern Kalahari’s biodiversity.

Useful things to know before you embark on this amazing journey
All locations on this tour are malaria-free.
Tswalu operates a daily scheduled charter service directly to the reserve’s own airstrip from both Cape Town International Airport and Johannesburg’s O.R. Tambo International Airport.
Tswalu is not a Big 5 destination but offers a more specialised safari experience, featuring many rare and critically endangered species such as the African Wild Dog and Black Rhino, as well as five of the most elusive species in Africa. There are 85 mammal and 264 bird species at Tswalu, along with numerous reptiles, insects, and butterflies. Many animals on the reserve are dry savanna specialists, well adapted to the harsh conditions of the savanna biome with its extreme temperatures and scarcity of water in the winter months.
Tswalu offers a variety of unique activities. Aside from game drives and bush walks, horse riding and visits to a meerkat colony are among the favourites. Tswalu also has an incredible sleep-out activity on the Kalahari dunes, which requires pre-reservation.
